Tools of The Trade

I have to admit I love making jewelry and some of my tools are things that I walk past and a little light goes off in my head and I think I can use that. The things that have been very helpful in some of my creations are simple household items.

To make these round earrings I used the top of a nail polish bottle, (the cap). I just wrapped the wire around the cap and pulled it tight to size and there I had a design that I could embellish.

The neck wire was shaped from a candle jar, very gently I formed the circle needed around the glass candle jar, and it made a very nice neck wire. You need to move slowly and carefully when using found items.

......
..
I can make oval links by wrapping wire around tweezes that I have and then cut the wire and the oval links are formed because of the shape of the tweezers end.

My ear wires are made by actually taking the wire and wrapping it around one of the handles of my jewelry tools. I am a bit unconventional at times but I love the feeling I get when I see something take shape.

You will find items that you can use if you just look around, I will suggest that you try using copper wire first so that you have practice with that till you get the results that you want before moving on to a more expensive wire.

Just wanted to share a creative whim.

South Carolina Vacation

I spent three weeks in South Carolina; most of the time was spent in Longs, not far from North Myrtle Beach. One of my favorite places near here is Cherry Grove, the beaches are beautiful and the summer rentals line its shores, each offering a pleasant relaxing vacation. Friendly is the way to describe everyone that I met along the waters edge.

No, I didn’t stay in one of those houses, nor did I stay at a hotel along the shores either, but stayed in a private home in Longs where the gardenia's all around the home were in bloom, and the soft scent surrounded the house.

I enjoyed my stay in South Carolina and even got to do some fishing with some friends in Santee Cooper on Lake Marion. We rent a guide named Gus, and he takes us out fishing, a huge catfish was caught by a friend. We of course do catch and release, so no worry the big catfish is swimming around once again in the lake.

There was many laughs shared, the food at the local restaurants was great, the company we spent with our friends was most enjoyable. I have to say I was saddened when it came time to part our ways once more, each of us promising to get together again next year.

I am looking forward to that time…
